Photography Analysis

     

These are a collection of images by Steve McCurry. He is a universally recognized photographer who has won several top photography awards. All these pictures show harsh reality which conveys a very powerful message.
                The way the image of the female beggar with her child has been shot is quite admirable. Instead of taking a picture of someone actually begging, for e.g. with their arms out, this picture is taken from inside the car, covering parts of the car from inside and one can immediately make out what this picture is about. He has used different ways to capture a general issue, in this case poverty. The rain on the car furthermore adds depth to the picture and illustrates a juxtaposition of rich and poor; the rich people inside the car, warm and safe, and the poor, outside in the rain. We see the eyes of the child but not of the mother, placing more emphasis on the child which brings out more emotion from the viewers as they feel sorry for the poor child.

The other image of the boy covered in snow ( I think) is an image that really stands out.  Although the boy is covered in snow and is hugging himself, the look on his face is quite brave, determined and strong. Nothing will stop him from achieving his goal. His eyes are the highlight of the picture, the part that really brings meaning. Without those big, determined eyes, the picture certainly would have lost its powerfulness.
